For my PhD thesis, I will explore the evolutionary forces of intraspecific variation in defensive chemistry of the dually defended genus Erysimum and evaluate drivers of natural selection on cardenolides defenses. My project will eventually provide a comprehensive evaluation of the consequences of an evolutionally novel secondary metabolite cardenolides at the plant level.
